My Tiniest Fundraiser

December 30th, 2011 by Kenneth | No Comments | Filed in News, Photos

I am finally getting around to making official my little attempt to do some good with the above image. I took the photo at the 2009 presidential inauguration and have had it in my art collection since there was such a thing. I’m now pledging to give all profit from the image to DC Central Kitchen, a wonderful charity in Washington, DC. I currently have the image in my online store as an 8×10 archival print and a 5×7 postcard. I also have a framed copy available if you see me at a show or contact me directly.

But why stop there? Why not license it for your huge ad campaign? You’ll know that you helped a ton of people, plus you’ll get to promote that thing of yours! It’s a win-win-win-win-win.

Even if I don’t make much of a difference with this particular image, I’m excited about the idea and have more plans for the near future. In the meantime, I hope everyone has a safe and happy new year! Thanks for a great 2011!

DCist Exposed?

January 6th, 2010 by Kenneth | 2 Comments | Filed in News, Photos

For the third year in a row, I have submitted photos for the DCist Exposed Photography Show. It’s been a great show for the last two years that I’ve attended and I’ll be there again this year even if my work isn’t. I’m happier than ever with my selections, which you may recognize from the blog or among my art collections. Not coincidentally, this is also the first year that I’ve tried to do this photography thing professionally. None of these photos came from paid jobs, but I believe my new focus has helped me to develop my skill and vision.

There is no public voting for this show, but I’m sure thinking a few positive thoughts wouldn’t hurt. You may also want to click one of the photos to see them along side their impressive competition.

In the Papers

One of my photos from Marin and Daniel’s engagement session appeared in the Sunday Washington Post recently as part of their engagement announcement. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to seeing my photos in the newspaper, but I’m willing to give it a shot.

Congratulations again to Marin and Daniel!

The White House and The Wharf

August 29th, 2009 by Kenneth | No Comments | Filed in Photos

I was lucky, along with my wife and Casey, to get a tour of the West Wing of the White House. I was awestruck by the stuff we saw, the stuff I imagined, and the stories we heard. Like Casey I couldn’t keep my eyes off the “jumbos” (large framed prints) of up-to-the-week moments in the current administration, to the point of wandering into areas that are less than public and probably missing other interesting things. Yes, I’m sure we could have seen the same photos on the White House Flickr stream, but there’s something about seeing them on the walls in the actual White House. Also, I got a kick out of seeing Helen Thomas‘s seat in the press room, and the Oval Office is smaller than you’d imagine, but more impressive.

Then, to The Wharf for an entirely different experience. The food was good and cheap, the atmosphere was great, and the weather was perfect. It was nice to see such a variety of people hanging out, and I got to check off another item off my list of DC things I really should have done by now.

Marin & Daniel

August 9th, 2009 by Kenneth | No Comments | Filed in Photos

My friends Marin and Daniel were kind enough to invite me to their beautiful Dupont Circle condo for a combo cat/engagement session. I had a great time with the three of them and the weather was perfect. The only hiccup was when we tried to go to the roof of the Hay-Adams but apparently you need clearance from the Whitehouse to do that. Such is life in D.C., but we had plenty of great photos before then and settled for a delicious brunch on the ground floor.

Reunion

July 19th, 2009 by Kenneth | No Comments | Filed in News, Photos

I’ve been authorized/asked to publicize the private event that I alluded to in the previous post. I’m happy with what Casey and I were able to put together and, most importantly, so are our clients. In my mind there were two keys to the success: first that everyone was having a great time catching up with old friends and colleagues, and second that Casey and I enabled each other to get the shots that we needed. Below are a few of my shots. Our full set can be seen here.

The Inauguration, Six Months Later

July 11th, 2009 by Kenneth | No Comments | Filed in News, Photos

Inspired by a recent private reunion of a few U.S. government agencies that Casey Collings and I documented, I have added my coverage of Barak Obama’s presidential inauguration to the “projects” area of my portfolio.

I’ve included a few samples below, but even if you saw them the first time around it’s worth looking at the portfolio set. I put a little more time into processing them today so they look a bit better, but it was also great to spend the morning reliving the excitement of that event. As I said in the immediate aftermath, the inauguration was cold, crowded, and one of the most amazing things I’ve ever experienced.
