Jen & Mark

June 4th, 2011 by Kenneth | No Comments | Filed in Photos

I’m finally getting around to posting the photos from Jen and Mark’s wedding! The amazing setting is Jen’s parents’ house on the river in Warsaw, Virginia. Everyone had a great time, myself included, and I’m grateful to have been a part of their day. And a huge thanks to both Bri Bevan of photography and screen printing fame and to my wonderful wife for assisting me.

The photos have been in my portfolio for a little while now, and that’s a good place to go if you’d like to see more from this wedding and other events. If you have any questions about my wedding services or would like to discuss any upcoming event, please get in touch!

Happy National Doughnut Day!

June 3rd, 2011 by Kenneth | No Comments | Filed in Photos

I hope everyone is enjoying their National Doughnut Day! I would’ve gone to Paul’s, but Krispy Kreme is more photogenic. They’re also more free-doughnutty today.

A Feast for the Eyes

March 30th, 2011 by Kenneth | No Comments | Filed in News, Photos

Get out your calendars, because you’ll want to get down to LibertyTown Arts Workshop in Fredericksburg this Friday, April 1st. My piece above, brilliantly titled by my wife as “Meloncholy”, has been accepted to their annual “Feast for the Eyes” show. If a room full of art about food wasn’t enough, there will also be an Edible Art Competition, for which you are the judges! I even made a Facebook event for it. What more can you ask for?

The non-perishable art will be there throughout the month, but why miss the party? See you there!

Wounded EOD Warrior Polar Bear Plunge 2011

February 15th, 2011 by Kenneth | 2 Comments | Filed in Photos

It’s tough to call anyone else brave when the Wounded EOD Warrior Foundation is around, but anyone who would go for a swim in the Rappahannock on an early February morning is clearly braver than I. And a shocking number of people did on Saturday at the WEODW’s fourth annual Polar Bear Plunge at the City Dock in Fredericksburg. I’m always impressed at the enthusiasm and character of our little community, and this was no exception.

DCist Exposed 2011

January 11th, 2011 by Kenneth | No Comments | Filed in Photos

It’s DCist Exposed time of year again, and this year I’m sticking close to home. I took all three photos in Fredericksburg, where we get whomped by the same snow storms, enjoy the same temperate growing season (sometimes with the land to use it), and even get some of the same great musical acts at our small clubs on their way up the road. Also, I didn’t shoot in DC much last year.

Snow Day
I shot this in the lonely Old Mill park playground after our last big snow storm of early 2010.

Ladybugs
One of my favorite aspects of our home vegetable garden is that every year we get to release thousands of ladybugs to protect our little plants.

Back Stage

Head on over to the Flickr pool to see all of this year’s entries.

RIFF 2010

September 18th, 2010 by Kenneth | No Comments | Filed in Photos

I went to the Rappahannock Independent Film Festival a few Saturdays ago with my with my festival day pass and my camera, just hoping to see some films and some friends, and probably grab a few photos. But when Ian checked me in at the front desk and asked if I could fill a gap in their photography coverage, I happily went to work. I had a great time watching and shooting, and I can’t wait for next year.

You can get more information on the festival at http://rifilmfestival.com and you can see more photos from this and previous years in the Flickr pool.

Ice Cream

Ice Cream Musk Melon

This is an ice cream musk melon; so named because, when cut in half and cleaned out, it’s the perfect size for a scoop of ice cream. We grew this melon from seed in our garden, along with many other fruits and vegetables that will get some attention here when I get a chance. For now, this should be enough to get you salivating.

Summer

July 12th, 2010 by Kenneth | No Comments | Filed in Photos

Each Summer, I get to spend at least two days with great food and friends: Independence Day at my house (see: last year) and a Swedish Midsummer celebration at Casey‘s house. This year, the July 4th main course was made by Dixie Bones, and I couldn’t be happier about that.

If you’re looking for photos of the fireworks this year, head to Casey’s post. This time I took video of the fireworks, and I hope to have something to share of that soon.

The food at the Midsummer celebration on Saturday was, as always, prepared by Erica. Casey poured the Akvavit. It was all as great as ever.

Thanks to everyone at both parties for the start to another great Summer.

DCist Exposed?

January 6th, 2010 by Kenneth | 2 Comments | Filed in News, Photos

For the third year in a row, I have submitted photos for the DCist Exposed Photography Show. It’s been a great show for the last two years that I’ve attended and I’ll be there again this year even if my work isn’t. I’m happier than ever with my selections, which you may recognize from the blog or among my art collections. Not coincidentally, this is also the first year that I’ve tried to do this photography thing professionally. None of these photos came from paid jobs, but I believe my new focus has helped me to develop my skill and vision.

There is no public voting for this show, but I’m sure thinking a few positive thoughts wouldn’t hurt. You may also want to click one of the photos to see them along side their impressive competition.

Snowbound in Charlottesville

January 4th, 2010 by Kenneth | No Comments | Filed in Photos

Out of everything in a very eventful 2009, I’m most thankful for making it home alive from Blacksburg, Virginia during/after the recent storm that attempted to strand, smash, and throw my wife and me off a few mountains. We spent 7 terrible hours driving 120 miles with no physical or mental breaks until I finally gave up and we booked a room at the Comfort Inn in Charlottesville. We updated our worried families, had a wonderful vending machine dinner, and watched the snow continue to pile up outside.

In the morning we ventured down the hill to check on our car and get my camera. Here is my lovely wife making the most of the morning.

After the vending machine had run out of food and it was clear that the roads weren’t going to be in any shape for the 140 or so people in the hotel to leave, the good folks at the Comfort Inn convinced some other good folks at Albemarle Fire and Rescue to bring us some pizzas.

With the knowledge that I’d be able to eat something that evening, I headed outside to do what I do.

Cold, wet, and satisfied with my photos, I headed back to our room. Later we waited in the lobby with two of the all-stars of the weekend: coffee and iPhones.

Everyone waited patiently for the pizza to arrive and watched local news stories of people much less fortunate than all of us. In the morning many of us worked together to dig out the cars that were buried in the hotel road and parking lot. I’m very thankful for the hotel staff, guests, and the Fire and Rescue workers who helped make a difficult situation as easy as possible.
