My Tiniest Fundraiser

December 30th, 2011 by Kenneth | No Comments | Filed in News, Photos

I am finally getting around to making official my little attempt to do some good with the above image. I took the photo at the 2009 presidential inauguration and have had it in my art collection since there was such a thing. I’m now pledging to give all profit from the image to DC Central Kitchen, a wonderful charity in Washington, DC. I currently have the image in my online store as an 8×10 archival print and a 5×7 postcard. I also have a framed copy available if you see me at a show or contact me directly.

But why stop there? Why not license it for your huge ad campaign? You’ll know that you helped a ton of people, plus you’ll get to promote that thing of yours! It’s a win-win-win-win-win.

Even if I don’t make much of a difference with this particular image, I’m excited about the idea and have more plans for the near future. In the meantime, I hope everyone has a safe and happy new year! Thanks for a great 2011!

New to my online store: holiday cards! I’ve turned two of my favorite holiday images into lovely folded cards and bundled them in packs of ten for all of your winter well-wishing needs! The 5×7 cards are blank on the inside, have subtle text on the back identifying the image and my website, and include envelopes. After my recent shows in Richmond and Durham, I only have five of each set, so don’t delay!

As it is currently December 19th, let me know if you have any special shipping needs and I’ll do my best to work with you. Please visit my store for more images of the cards, and all my other products. Don’t forget that my crazy 20% off promotion is still running through the end of the year, so be sure to use the coupon code OutOfTown!

Holiday Shows

November 25th, 2011 by Kenneth | No Comments | Filed in News

I’ve got three exciting shows coming up in December! The first is on Sunday the 4th at The Bankuet Place in Richmond, Virginia and put on by aRtVA. The second is the Rock & Shop Market on Saturday the 17th all the way at the Motorco Music Hall in Durham, North Carolina. I’ll have more of my larger framed prints with me at both shows than I’ve had before, along with all my smaller prints and cards. I think there are some gift giving occasions coming up?

Lastly, for the whole month of December (or until they’re sold (fingers crossed)), I will have three framed pieces and ten unframed prints at the Fredericksburg Center for the Creative Arts’s Holiday Art Show & Sale.

Not going to be around for any of these shows but still want to get in on the action? Head to my online store and use the coupon code OutOfTown to get 20% off your order between now and say…the end of the year? Sure. Why not!

Fall Foliage Festival Wrap Up

October 12th, 2011 by Kenneth | No Comments | Filed in News

This is probably old news to anyone who follows me on Facebook, but I was awarded Second Place Photographer at this past weekend’s Virginia Fall Foliage Festival Art Show in Waynesboro, VA. I’m still wrapping my brain around that, so I’ll just say it was wonderful and surprising. Beyond that, thanks to everyone involved for a great show, especially everyone who came by my booth. I had more fun and engaged conversations with people there than I’ve had at any other venue. The level of artists was also as high as I’ve seen at a show. Any local fine art fans should definitely check it out next year. I hope to be there again, so I’ll of course let you all know the details if I get in. And to my fellow artists, the festival staff were incredibly generous. Be sure to visit the Shenandoah Valley Art Center next summer for an application.

I hope to have a few more shows lined up this year, and I’ll be sure to let you know the details here, on Facebook, on Twitter, and in an upcoming newsletter, whatever works for you. Why not try all of them?

Thanks again everyone!

New Art Prints: Two Sugars

October 5th, 2011 by Kenneth | No Comments | Filed in News, Photos

Introducing: two new art prints! And they’re both about sugar!

Raw Sugar

Sugar Cube

You have two ways to see them in person this weekend. First is this Friday at LibertyTown’s First Friday reception for their 6″x6″x6″ show. All of the pieces in this show fit in a 6″x6″x6″ space, frame and all. I created these two prints for the show, and they’re presented as 5″ square prints there.

The second way is to come to the Fall Foliage Art Show this weekend in Waynesboro, VA. They will be available framed and unframed exactly as you see above. See my previous post for more information.

I hope to see you this weekend, but if not, there’s always my online store!

How I Got to MaxFunCon

June 17th, 2011 by Kenneth | No Comments | Filed in News, Photos

Just over a month ago, I was checking up on Twitter and saw that Jesse Thorn needed a photographer. I’ve followed Jesse and his work at MaximumFun.org for about five years and it’s been an important part of how I stay connected with art and culture. This is particularly true for the worlds of hip hop and comedy, neither of which often get more informed and engaged attention than they get at Maximum Fun. I also consistently find my favorite authors and filmmakers on either or both of the interview show or the comedy talk show. I could go on and on, so if you’re still unconvinced I’ll just give you guided tour of the podcasts. OK?

Jesse needed the photographer for the upcoming MaxFunCon, a famously amazing gathering in Lake Arrowhead, California. I had come to terms with the fact that this would be the third year that I was going to miss MaxFunCon, but when I saw that there was chance to not only attend but participate, and after my wife assured me that I wasn’t crazy, I jumped in and offered my services. A week and few emails later, I had the job and started scrambling to get my mind, gear, and transportation in order.

Last Thursday I flew to LA to attend and photograph the MaxFunDinner that precedes MaxFunCon as thanks to the performers, volunteers, and top tier donors. I got to meet some of the people responsible for my favorite podcasts, including Jordan and Jesse of Jordan, Jesse, GO!, Graham and Dave of Stop Podcasting Yourself, Justin and Griffin of My Brother, My Brother and Me, and the Judge himself, John Hodgman. I also met some of my new favorite people who would be working, performing, or just having fun at MaxFunCon.

I managed to get in a few photos between eating and socializing that night, but this is the tip of the iceberg. If you haven’t yet, check out my previous post at the bottom of this to see the portraits from the photo booth I ran at Saturday’s Country Estate Party. I’ll be back soon with photos from the first day of MaxFunCon.

Fine Art Update

Art in Richmond

Things have been pretty busy around here. At the beginning of May I participated in my first art show, at the huge Arts in the Park show in Richmond. I couldn’t have asked for a better show. My great friends from Itty Bitty Press and from Studio Eriksdotter were right next door and a minute’s walk away, respectively. The weather was beautiful, and I got a great response to my work. Most of the time I spend with my work is through a computer screen, so it’s really amazing to stand in front of beautifully matted and framed prints and talk with people all day. I’ve got a few more shows planned this year so watch here and Facebook for news.

Art Everywhere

In case you can’t get to a show or you just can’t wait, I’ve also launched a proper online store at http://store.leckyphotography.com. As of this writing, I’ve got nearly everything available that I had at Arts in the Park. This includes the unframed 8x10s and 8x12s of a variety of prints and 5×7 postcards. If you’re interested in a matted and framed print, just let me know. And if you ever see a piece that you’d like to see in print, or if you’re interested in a larger print than I currently offer, drop me a line.

My store integrates nicely with Facebook, so that if you head over to my page and like it, you can get a 10% off coupon by clicking on the little “store” button in the left menu. You can then shop right from the page or head out to the main store to see everything I have to offer. Happy shopping!

A Feast for the Eyes

March 30th, 2011 by Kenneth | No Comments | Filed in News, Photos

Get out your calendars, because you’ll want to get down to LibertyTown Arts Workshop in Fredericksburg this Friday, April 1st. My piece above, brilliantly titled by my wife as “Meloncholy”, has been accepted to their annual “Feast for the Eyes” show. If a room full of art about food wasn’t enough, there will also be an Edible Art Competition, for which you are the judges! I even made a Facebook event for it. What more can you ask for?

The non-perishable art will be there throughout the month, but why miss the party? See you there!
